Education
Alec has conceived and realised a number of collaborative artist projects
in schools. These include Football
Haiku, published as a book in 2002; The
Book of Eyes (with Amapro Montero Espina), at Westlea Primary
and The Community School of Auchterarder ; The Book
of Questions, published as a newspaper by BALTIC and later
as a book; wordwood,
an animation of mesostic name poems on the names of native trees; Renga
word-maps of Barmston Primary and Easington Colliery Primary;
Nine
Colours, an animation, featuring mesostic poems and colour
specifications from photographs, with Ken Cockburn and students of Tweedmouth
First Primary; Mesostic
Laboratorium, a series of poetic workshops composing mesostic
poems about famous scientists, with Tom Shakespeare and students of
Framwellgate school, Durham, as well as six other schools in the North
East, for the Science Learning Centre North East; and Mesostic
Curriculum, a collection of mesostic poems created as signs,
for Billingham Campus.
All of these projects were produced by platform projects; a number were
realised with support from Creative
Partnerships.
